IAG welcomes CTP legislation in the NSW Parliament

IAG today welcomed the tabling of the NSW Government’s CTP legislation as an important move towards finalising reform to make the scheme easier, simpler and more affordable for NSW motorists.

Under the NRMA Insurance brand, IAG is the largest CTP insurer in NSW, covering approximately 1.8 million vehicles.

IAG Chief Executive of Australian Consumer Division, Anthony Justice said the balance between supporting the most seriously injured and making it more affordable for motorists was on track.

“We’re pleased the Government has brought the legislation into the parliament and we’re supportive of the intended purpose of the reforms, which is about focusing on helping people recover more quickly from injury, rather than compensation,” Mr Justice said.

“IAG has been consistently calling for long-term structural reform to the NSW CTP scheme to ensure the new model is fair and sustainable for road users, and today is a great step towards achieving this outcome.

“We have appreciated the opportunity to contribute to and participate in the Government’s consultation process that has ultimately been about putting the interests of motorists’ front and centre.

“We’ll continue to work with the Government, industry and the community to ensure reform is achieved as well as provide our customers with a smooth transition to the new scheme,” Mr Justice concluded.
