IAG helps customers impacted by hailstorms
24 Jan 2020
IAG, Australia’s largest general insurer, is all hands on deck helping customers impacted by recent hailstorms in QLD, VIC, NSW and ACT. To date IAG has received more than 28,000 claims across its brands, which include NRMA Insurance, CGU, RACV and WFI.
Safety advice ahead of hailstorms
IAG Executive General Manager, Claims, Luke Gallagher, said: “When it comes to hailstorms we always urge people to put their safety first. If possible, stay indoors and avoid driving in severe weather. If you are on the road, pull over to the side of the road when and where it’s safe to do so and wait for the storm to pass. Avoid driving through floodwater, even a small amount of floodwater is unsafe.”
When a storm is predicted, IAG recommends drivers:
- Turn their lights on to increase visibility. If possible, they should try to pull off the road away from traffic at the safest place possible. Once pulled over, they should turn on their hazard lights.
- Try to avoid parking under trees, which may lose branches in a storm.
- Don’t drive or walk through floodwaters. Drivers should also avoid mud, debris and fallen trees.
Support for our customers
IAG Executive General Manager, Claims, Luke Gallagher said: “We’re encouraging customers whose vehicles or homes have been damaged to contact us as soon as they can to lodge their claim.
“For our customers with damage to their home, our priority is ensuring their safety and our teams are on the ground helping those customers.
“We have builders ensuring our customers’ properties are safe and secure and will contact them to book in property assessments, so repairs can begin as soon as possible. We can also arrange emergency accommodation until repairs are completed.”
Setting up Specialist Hail Repair Centres
IAG’s Hail Repair Centres specialise in triaging damaged vehicles and arranging repairs. The centres have been set up in NSW, ACT and Victoria to help get our customers back on the road as quickly as possible. Additional facilities to accommodate volume of claims will be set up as required.
IAG’s partnered glaziers are also onsite at our centres to replace damaged glass to keep customers on the road until the hail damage can be repaired.
Making a claim
IAG encourages NRMA Insurance, CGU, RACV and WFI customers lodge claims online where possible. Once a claim is lodged a member of the team will be in touch to arrange the assessment and repairs to a home or vehicle.
