Climate change solutions for Australia 200818 March 2008The Australian Climate Group (ACG) was co founded by IAG and WWF-Australia in 2004 to make a case for urgent action in response to climate change. The ACG reconvened in 2008 to call for urgent action on emissions to minimise the risk of dangerous shifts in climate. The ACG released a report on 18 March 2008, which provides recommendations for Federal Government policy to address climate change. The ACG's key recommendations to the Australian Federal Government are to adopt measures to:

Sustainability compact
3 July 2006
By signing the sustainability compact with the New South Wales Department of Environment and Conservation, IAG agreed to incorporate sustainable thinking into all business decisions and in turn the Government will provide IAG with greater access to resources and expertise that will help make our operations, supply chain and facilities even more environmentally sustainable.

Myopia: Short-termism as a barrier to corporate sustainability

Presented by Michael Hawker at a Green Capital Breakfast. The challenge for everyone in business is how to monetise what sustainability is in today's terms. The biggest problem is that people talk about long-term changes but they cannot put a financial value on them today. We have to be able to monetise future costs in today's terms.

The business case for early action

With broad consensus that climate change is real and that Australia needs to act to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the Australian Business Roundtable on Climate Change has released a report which shows significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions can be achieved at an affordable cost to the Australian economy.

IAG submission to the Stern review on the economics of climate change and development
2 February 2006
IAG considers that the seriousness of the threat of climate change warrants further action at the local, national and international level. Climate change is a global issue and it must therefore be addressed globally—national governments, communities and business must work together to deliver policy, markets and community action to achieve deep cuts in GHG emissions.
