The hallmark of a good company is to be able to adapt to the changing operating environment to ensure its sustainability.
For an insurance company, the future is just as important as the present. Our long term viability depends on our ability to calculate risk based on what we believe will happen days, months and years from now. Long term thinking is critical to our success.
At IAG, sustainability is about bringing the future into today's decision making for the benefit of our business, customers and communities. Sustainability is not an add on, or a program that is run alongside our operations. Instead, we see it as an outcome. We will be a sustainable business by managing all the dimensions—economic, social and environmental—of our businesses well.
Every year, we detail our performance against economic, social and environmental sustainability measures. In 2008, for the first time we have integrated sustainability reporting into our annual reporting. Our inaugural annual review has integrated sustainability data and case studies in the report to stakeholders and more detailed information on our sustainability progress this year is available within the 2008 performance section of this website. This replaces the stand alone sustainability reports that we have prepared in previous years and we consider it better reflects the real integration of sustainability within our business.
We are proud to be included in the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World and Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes. While recognising that these industry benchmarks illustrate our leadership in being a sustainable business, we are committed to continuous improvement. We strive to explore new ways to maintain our leadership position while delivering superior experiences for all of our stakeholders and creating shareholder value.
IAG's historical sustainability reports, as well as our research with the Australian Climate Group (ACG) can be found in other reports.
